You know when you are around great people when they introduce themselves to you as “John” and listen to you – closely, and with care. They bring a group of people with them (“I’m from HBO, it’s so nice to meet you! Thank you so much for letting us into your home, we know how scary it can be to let a film crew in”) and they move things around, ask for different wattage in your lightbulbs and turn your refrigerator off (they make too much background noise). They also leave their keys in your fridge because they care very much that they leave your house exactly they way they found it (and who would forget their keys?). They bring snacks (they’ve worked long days) and are happy to share the one you made (they ARE hungry, but they also want you to know they care, and want you to feel comfortable). And then, after the mics are on, the lights are up and ready, the video camera is set, they sit down, and they start asking you questions. Important questions about what our schools are feeding our kids, what it’s doing to them and what it’s teaching them – and why we are so damn mad about it.

Equipment

When HBO contacted us about being a part of their project, it was exciting (HBO!). But I’m glad I didn’t know the names of the people who would be interviewing us before they came because I may have done the research that I just did and would have been scared out of my mind.

Now that John, Kate, Dyanna, and the rest of the amazing, professional and caring documentary crew are gone, I’m just excited about their involvement in our schools and for caring so much about not only our nations kids, but OUR kids, and MY kids, and kids all around this country. You should be thankful, too, because they might just be the push that our schools needed to make Real Change. They have an amazing track record, and have moved the bar.

Lots of people who care about Kids, Obesity, and School Lunch - in my living room.

After all, if the work we are all doing doesn’t make a difference, our kids might think that this is an ok way to eat.

Had the honor to represent angered parents at the June 14, 2011 Rally at the Capitol.
You can see me speakin’ my mind here.

Super kudos to the peeps at WEAC who gave me the platform and some awesome talking points,
and to Jeff Miller Photography for this great picture,

and especially to my eldest son Henrik for WANTING to go on stage with me (despite wondering if I was so scared I was going to puke) and for being a good kid and example of why we should all care.

And to my hubby and both of my kids who will never give up on our state and still, to this day, honk “this is what democracy looks like” or jump into a roaring “RECALL WALKER’ at the site of the Capitol (especially the three year old).
